What’s the difference between a therapist and a coach?

While coaching and counseling are the same in that they both provide you with a helpful relationship with a person that supports your wellness and growth there are a few differences. In simplest terms a therapist helps people address and resolve problems from their past that has caused emotional impairment in their ability to function well in everyday life. A coach is under the presumption that the client is in a healthy place mentally and emotionally. The client is ready to receive guidance and instruction on how to make changes that will help them achieve their goals for the future.

Can I receive therapy and coaching services at Cosmo Therapy?

If you receive therapy services with Cosmo Therapy, unfortunately you are not eligible to receive coaching services and wellness services due to ethical guidelines. If you are a coaching client and through our work its identified you will need therapy services I will not be able to provide therapy and will refer you for therapy with another healthcare professional.

Who do you work with?

I work with adolescents and millennial women who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life stressors, perfectionism. family, self-worth and boundaries issues. I am licensed to provided therapy services in North Carolina and I provide wellness/coaching services all across the U.S.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time we do not accept insurance in the state of Louisiana. However, we work with our clients so that they are able to receive quality services from us or refer them to our network of providers who may be more in line with their financial needs. We accept BCBS in the state of North Carolina. We accept payment methods Cash, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, and Pay Pal.

What happens during the first session?

The initial session is the time for you to share your story, talk about your goals and establish a therapeutic or coaching relationship. During this time you will be provided forms that discuss guidelines and procedures for services and answer any questions you may have.

How often will we meet?

In the beginning we will meet once a week. The frequency of meeting times determine on progress and goals set.

What is your cancellation policy?

A fee of $100 will be charged to your credit card on file when you miss or cancel an appointment without giving  24 hours advanced notice or if you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment. You can cancel your appointment by calling the office or logging into the client portal. This policy applies to all scheduled appointments where a credit card is given to hold the appointment, via phone call or client portal.

The only time we will waive this fee is in the event of serious or contagious illness or extreme weather. If you are unsure, please contact us for further guidance.

What about confidentiality?

We understand the value of your trust, and we take every precaution to assure that confidentiality is upheld. As a mental health professional our ethics code assures confidentiality in a therapeutic relationship and will be upheld with coaching clients as well. Also as a mental health professional by law I am a mandated reporter so with both therapy and coaching clients I am mandated to report any harm to self, others, child/elderly abuse.

What if I am in a crisis?

If you are in a crisis please call 911 or visit your local emergency room?

Who can participate in Wellness Services?

All coaching clients are able to participate in wellness services. Unfortunately due to ethical guidelines therapy clients will not be able to participate.
